Get to Know Me…

Hi,

I’m Jess, with nearly 20 years of marketing and advertising experience up my sleeve and the immense pleasure of working in some fabulous agencies and with some great brands, I recently took time to pause and decided to focus my skills on what I love… writing, blogging and engaging. But most of all story-telling. The power of telling your brand story in your audience’s language is my passion!

Writing has been a driving force throughout my life, writing and putting on plays as a child. A pen-friend and writing fiction based on The Babysitters Club were my love. As I grew older I have continued my writing with blogs, journals and writing letters to my children.

Behind the scenes I am a photographer, blogger, traveller, wife and mum. I live in the green hills of Titirangi, Auckland with my husband, two kids and two cats. Spending any spare time walking, yoga, reading, writing, taking photos and exploring Auckland, New Zealand and (whenever we can) overseas. A cheeky glass of wine with girlfriends is also on that list of favourite activities!

Why Rhubarb & Co. you might ask? I was searching for a business name that had quirk and intrigue, and scope to evolve as I needed. Whilst making my favourite winter breakfast (stewed rhubarb, tamarillo and raspberries - I can give you the recipe if you like!), I was struck with how awesome rhubarb the ‘fruit’ is, the versatility, colour and taste. How it combines beautifully with so many dynamic flavours - ginger, vanilla, lemon and tamarillo. The word is so lovely, the silent ‘h’ and the English-ness of it is delightful. Rhubarb & Co. is a summation of this, the sound of the word and the ability of the fruit to enhance and be enhanced by other flavours, whilst being pretty much inedible in it’s raw state! Read my full story here.

I’ve put my writing skills to the test and launched my New Zealand travel blog - Backyard Traveller. Check it out here for some local travel inspiration.

Please get in touch with your project. I can’t wait to help!
